How to set up monitoring with CloudRadar?

Setting up CloudRadar is very easy.
The first step is to create a host. A host can be any device with an IP address: a server, a network device like a router, switch, printer, security camera, temperature sensor etc. Other typical hosts are websites on the internet or within your intranet.
The second step is either to add agent-less checks like checking TCP ports or to install the agent on the operating system. Alerting is already pre-setup. You can fine-tune later.

What exactly can be monitored via the agent?

With the agent installed you get detailed monitoring about
• CPU usage and load average
• memory usage
• fill level of all disks (will be auto-discovered)
• bandwidth usage of all network cards
• list of all running processes
• list of all services (Linux Systems & Windows Services) and their states
• list of all Hyper-V virtual machines and their states (auto-discovered) if Hyper-V is enabled
• list of all docker containers and their states (auto-discovered) if docker is installed (docker   for Linux only)
• list of most CPU consuming processes if the load is above a given threshold
• available and pending Windows updates

What exactly can be monitored without installing an agent?

With agent-less monitoring you can check if any TCP port is listening for connections to verify services, e.g. SMTP, HTTP, IMAP, etc. are up and running. Via ICMP echo requests (Pings), the general availability of hosts, servers, and devices is checked.

Which operating systems are supported?

CloudRadar provides in-depth server monitoring for most operating systems:

Linux for NAS like QNAP, Synology, Buffalo, etc.
More operating systems are possible with our open agent, but at this moment not fully tested/supported.

What is covered by the web checks?

Web checks do HEAD, GET and POST requests via HTTP or HTTPs to given urls. The response status code is checked against your specification. You can also check if a given string inside the returned html of a website is present. Javascript is not interpreted, and related assets like CSS, JS, and images are not downloaded or checked.

How can I check the availability of devices without public IP address inside my intranet?

This is done by installing a local data collector - called Frontman - inside your intranet. Frontman can be installed on any Windows or Linux server. Frontman performs all agent-less checks and the web checks inside your network.

How does the pay-as-you-go pricing work?

This is our fair pricing model:
You pay only what you really use. Other monitoring tools often charge per server per month. We charge only what you effectively use per day. If you stop monitoring a server, you stop paying that day, and not at the end of the month. That also means that you don’t need to buy any packages of 10/50/100 servers of which some are unused. You only pay for the exact number of hosts you use.

How can I do a mass-deployment? How can I add hundreds of host efficiently?

With our upcoming API and the command line interface you can integrate the host creation and an automated configuration into scripts and tools like Ansible, Salt, Puppet, and many more. Our MSI package supports a fully unattended installation. Examples for Bash and Powershell will be provided.

Is CloudRadar suitable for monitoring IoT devices and smart homes?

Yes, it is. With Frontman - our local data collector - you can "ping" every IP-based device, e.g. within a smart home. Many IoT-devices run an embedded web server, which can be supervised by our web checks, even inside an intranet.
